Weather for Pilots

Our Aviation Meteorology courses cover all the weather topics which the Civil Aviation Authority require knowledge of when applying for a pilots licence. It is designed to give pilots the knowledge to fly safely and with confidence. We have a range of courses available to suit every level of experience and aspiration. This course can be taught online (please contact us for further details). Our courses can be held online or in-person. Our "in-person" courses are normally held at our venue in Bath, 09:30 - 16:30. However, bespoke courses can be arranged for group bookings and these training days can be held at your own venue or online if preferred.

The courses are led by our highly qualified meteorologist and consist of a mixture of lectures and practical exercises throughout the day. The daily price of our standard "in-person" courses includes course notes, exercises, certificate of course completion, lunch and refreshments. Aviation Meteorology - Foundation

A 1-day introductory course covering the fundamentals of aviation meteorology. Topics covered include:

Aviation Meteorology - Advanced

This 2-day advanced course provides a comprehensive guide to aviation meteorology and covers all the meteorological topics required for CAA pilot proficiency. For those who already have a basic understanding of meteorology, the advanced course can be booked on its own. Topics covered include:

  • Global circulation and jet streams
  • Cloud types and their formation
  • Visibility, precipitation and ceiling
  • Air masses and fronts
  • Low and high pressure systems
  • Turbulence, icing and wind shear
  • Convection and thunderstorms
  • Meteorology of high ground
  • Pressure charts, TAFs and METARS
  • Radar and satellite imagery
  • Tephigrams

Aviation Meteorology - Master

This 1-day course is an extension to the advanced course providing a deeper understanding of the subject through theory and practicals. It can be booked in combination with the foundation and advanced courses, providing an extensive knowledge base of the meteorological topics required for CAA pilot competency.

Aviation Meteorology - Custom

Fully customisable course exclusive to you and your group. Pick the desired topics from all our aviation courses (you can also add your own specialisms) then contact us for a quote. Courses can be 1-3 days, depending on the topics selected, and can be held at our venue, or a location of your choice.
